DEVELOPMENT

Some citrus farmers have no choice but to sell their land and pocket the profits as demand for new housing rises and citrus canker eradication teams level entire groves. Indian River County's property appraiser says that he has farmland "selling for $30,000, $40,000 or $50,000 an acre that used to be $7,000 to $8,000 three or four years ago."
