He also suggested a surge protector on it because the board could be damaged and he has never been able to repair one of them. He only does microwaves and has done so for 19 years.

Tile work
...Thank you for the information. We tried calling all three contractors, but got nowhere, I think they are just too busy and are not interested in smaller jobs. We eventually got a name (Classic Tile: Todd and Scott 813-956-2434) from our neighbor who used them a year or so ago and were very happy with them. We called them, left a message and they immediately returned out call (good sign). They also showed up for the appointment (another good sign) and did a fabulous job on the tile in the three bathrooms. I am somewhat handy when it comes to tile work, and these guys did not take any shortcuts. The tile work they did looks so much better than that that came with the house. I would highly recommend them. Not only do they do excellent work, but they are courteous and do the job the 'old-school' way. And the price was very reasonable compared to the other quotes I got.
Dryer Vent Cleaning
...I used Delintz Dryer Vent Cleaning Service 813-908-6191. My dryer works much better now and takes less time to dry clothes. I would recommend this company. I called one day and they were out the next. The service tech. was very nice and full of information and explained everything he was going to do and how he checks to make sure the vent is cleaned out. It was well worth the $70.00. ...Hi, Thanks again for all the great info. We have been having trouble with our sliders - Don and a friend replaced the rollers on the doors but problems persisted. Doors were difficult to open and close. Of course, our doors are out of warranty. We called Cliff Howard, Pulte Customer Service they gave us the number for Kinco who manufacture the doors and do the warranty work. Since we were out of warranty Kinco recommended FERMCO in Tampa. A fellow by the name of Scott from Fermco came out today and did a fabulous job. Amazing how well they work. Scott was so pleasant and took the time to explain what was wrong and why and gave us options on what could be done to repair them. ...I also had an unpleasant experience with Sierra Landscaping. The guy came out to do an estimate. He told me the job was "too small" for him, so I gave him the chance to refer someone else and not bother with an estimate. He said he would do the estimate anyway, although I may not like the answer. He never gave the estimate and would not answer or return my calls after. Patio Works (the name has changed now) had referred him and said they would stop referring him because they had heard the same from another customer. So, it sounds like they only treat those with large jobs with professional courtesy. I hope they learn someday that any customer could be a good customer! Thanks! Kelly

...Our movers did an absolutely fantastic job for us. They are owned and operated by a fellow Lex-Oaks'er, Terry Enget. They do moves in FL as well as throughout the Southeast. They gave us a quote that was guaranteed not to go higher after-the-fact and, because they gave us boxes ahead of time and encouraged us do some packing if we wanted, our move cost even less than their quote! They have big trucks and they were very timely and careful with our goods. Absolutely everything arrived on time and unbroken. Nothing was lost, no part of either residence was damaged, and all our beds were put back together & the W/D hook-ups were done for us. We couldn't have been more pleased with their conscientious & courteous service. Towing and Car Repair
...Last Monday at rush hour, I was on the way to Moffitt Hospital, and my car broke down. The tow truck came, took me to the auto shop. Then drove me to the hospital. After I was finished, the driver sent his wife to pick me up (so I wouldn't have to ride in the tow truck again). They told me if I waited, they would drive me home. (We 're talking 20 miles). Then one of the workers suggested that instead of making me wait he would loan me his car, then I would have no problem getting back the next day. The next day, they had the car ready in time for my next appt at Moffitt and other than parts, charged $148.00 labor. That was testing, new alternator and new battery. By the way, we're talking about 3 different people all of whom were helpful - the tow truck driver and his wife, the owner, and the employee who loaned me his car. Needless to say, I have found my new auto mechanic and I want to recommend this business to anyone who has need of a mechanic in the Tampa area. Thanks. Maureen

Pest/critter Problems
...We had the same problem and contracted with Best Pest Control for only $100.00 to remove the problem critter(s) and then signed up for a years pest control for $400.00 total. They came out, no charge, inspected the problem and gave us a free estimate.
We also received a free estimate from Truly Nolan but they wanted $1300.00 for the same service.

... I just wanted to let you know that the folks at Cypress Creek Vet & Animal Hospital were very helpful. (we captured our snake in a Gladware bowl, poked holes in the top & took it in for ID). They said it was a common garter snake - no big deal. So, while I still am not happy about finding 2 snakes in our home, at least they aren't poisonous.
A/C
...We had our A/C unit inspected yesterday. Glad we did as our air handler in the garage has MOLD in it. This mold has to be cleaned out. There's a UV light you can purchase which prevents the mold from re-growing. Through the A/C company it's $600, but I'm sure there are cheaper ones out there. Anybody know? I'd recommend an inspection to anyone. This company which had a full page add in a local magazine was great... BUDGET Cooling & Heating, 1-866-946-3011. 18-point A/C Tune-Up for $29 plus tax. I received an appointment a week after my call and the men were on time, professional, and very helpful.
...Just a note I had a heating and cooling contractor do some work for me and he did a good job. Schmitt wanted 4 times as much to redo my drain pipe. They told me that they would have to chip out the block and I would be responsible to have it repaired. I called another company to get a condenser pump in lieu of chip the block on the house. He came in and fixed the existing pipe without any problems on the weekend.

Before you begin buying any UV light for your A/C unit (if you have mold in there), you owe it to yourself to consult Anita Stone in Maywood. Her husband is an expert in the matter and willing to give advice on what companies are out there which are just trying to make a buck and what companies sell a decent product. Her note: MOLD IN AC: My husband is in sales with WACO FILTERS. He is a specialist in this and has been doing it for 20 years. WACO is one of the top 2 companies in Florida. The other one is American Air. Eric usually doesn't do orders for residental, but he will for the neighbors and you'll know you are getting the right thing. Or at least talk to him and make sure the one you want to order is the right one. There are MANY fly-by-night companies in heating & air!! He comes across them all the time. Some of them operate out of a house or a PO Box. So be careful! The only thing that will KILL MOLD IS THE ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT. And yes, they are expensive, but don't waste money on anything else. I don't know if that price is good or not, but we can check it out for you. I don't want you to spend more than you have to. Send me all the details on it if you have any more (size, type, model, etc) and Eric can check on it.

Several people have asked about the mold in their AC units. There was so much to explain about the problem, I wasn't able to call each person back.
FIRST - IF you're a normal person, don't have abnormal allergies, then you're OK with a little mold in your AC unit. There is mold in every AC unit in Florida--don't panic! Of course you have moisture in there--check it REGULARLY to make sure the drain pan is draining and not clogged up. You CAN use diluted clorox/water (my husband said very diluted) and spray any mold you see inside the unit. It will kill the mold. Let it sit for about 10 minutes, and then rinse it with water. Repeat later if necessary. One lady mentioned in her note to you that she put clorox water on a moistened cloth in her unit, and then let it run while she was gone. Eric says that sounds OK but it won't kill mold in your ducts. He doesn't see how an air unit that is as new as these houses could have mold so bad that it would require a light. He said they are mainly for evaporator coils, not for ductwork. If you see mold on the coil, just spray it and it will kill it. If you don't know how to find the coil, then get someone to help you or have a technician do it. If you want Eric to come over and show you how to do it the first time, he will do that for $20, or you can just ask the AC technician to show you the next time he is at your house. You should also change your filters at the frequency noted on the filter (if you buy the cheap ones, change them once a month).
NOW - IF you're not a normal person--you have very severe or abnormal allergic reactions--you might want the UV light. But there are drawbacks to the light. It will only kill mold that it directly shines on. You can't move them around to shine on different parts of the inside of the unit once they are installed. ALSO, they use a lot of electricity. He said he would never leave one on all the time, because it's not necessary, and it uses a lot of electricity, AND because the bulbs are expensive to replace (could be $200 for bulb and service call). If you price the units, be sure to ask for the cost of electricity to run it (the salesman should know this) and the cost of the bulbs. Reminds me of a printer I bought one time for $27; and I found out later it had the most expensive toner refill cartridges in the store! They get you comin' and goin', as my mom would say! One more thing--if you have bad allergies, you should make sure you aren't buying the cheapest filters Home Depot has (especially if you have a PET). He also said he couldn't order the UV lights for you, because he can't get them through his company (they don't do residential). He said you could ask if the brand you are considering is Steril-Aire. His company buys from them and they are good. Sorry he can't save you any money, but I hope the advice will help you make a wise decision on an expensive purchase. ***If you think the AC Technician is just trying to sell you something that you don't need, then Eric could come over and look at your unit and give you a non-biased second opinion for a nominal fee.*** Call me if you have any other questions -
